Coating Technology

Don’t be fooled by claims about new space age materials. Commercial and industrial installations of seamless flooring systems rely on coating systems that use multiple layers of materials tailored to serve specific functions. For the same reason cars are not painted with a multiple coats of the same paint, floors need to have different working layers of material all doing different things in order to have a durable finish.

Nothing sticks to well prepared concrete better than a low viscosity epoxy primer. And, just like you would never wear a raincoat under your sweater, you should never use a topcoat as a load bearing layer. A well formulated epoxy makes a perfect load bearing layer, as it has superior hardness and flexural strength. However, the same properties that make it a great load bearing layer also make it require a topcoat designed to be a bit softer.

A soft topcoat provides the abrasion resistance needed to keep your floor from scuffing and scratching.

All of our coating systems use the right material for the job. We don’t take shortcuts to get a job done quickly by asking a material to fill a role where it will fail. We use industrial grade epoxy primers and load bearing coatings in all of our floor systems. We use polyaspartic topcoats on all of our floor systems. American Epoxy Floors deliver the best of tried and true epoxy technology and high quality, new technology topcoats. Don’t settle for less on your floor.
